FAQ
What is Tai Chi?
Fundamentally Tai Chi is the common term used for a form, or set of movements, practiced
in a slow, steady manner to a set of principles - whole body action; central core
movement; use of the 8 energies and the 5 attitudes; utilisation of the 6 harmonies
and the 10 basic principles of external posture.
What can Tai Chi do for me?
The regular practice of Tai Chi can lead to the improvement of chronic health problems,
e.g. back, musculoskeletal and emotional. The regular movements combined with focus
and a steady breathing pattern mean that the practitioner finds peace and stillness
of the mind as well as a gentle exercise of the body. In addition, as the TAO also
teaches other aspects of Chinese Health Arts, e.g. K'ai Men, Tao Yin etc., then
the meridian system will also be energised and activated leading to improved overall
health and well-being.
Can complete beginners join the class?
Yes. Though it helps to assimilate the knowledge if new people start at the beginning
of a 5 week block, each class has people of different skill levels. Each exercise
has within it different levels at which it can be practiced so it is common that
many people can practice the same exercise but with different aspects being emphasised, depending on experience.
Am I too old to start?
No. Tai Chi can be learnt at any age as it is a gentle form of exercise and will
bring benefits whatever the age of the practitioner.
